Monday June 18th saw the start of this year’s 12-week pre-sessional course. This course is open to any non-native speaker of English whose IELTS score is 1.0 below the entry requirement (overall or in any element) and to any students who feel they could benefit from extra language and skills preparation before undertaking their university programme. This year there are five students on the course looking to progress onto either the Masters in Art Therapy or the Masters in Music Therapy. The pre-sessional course will provide these students with the opportunity to work on their general English language, move on to developing basic English academic skills and then undertake more challenging and productive academic tasks more specific to the demands they will meet on their courses at QMU.
More students (whose IELTS score is 0.5 below the entry requirement) will join this course for the last four weeks when it becomes much more intensive in nature. The students are required to prepare for and deliver a presentation in their subject area, participate in seminar discussions, and conduct research for a written assignment which is submitted in the final week.
On successful completion of this course, the students can progress onto their chosen programme of study at QMU.
